Friday 22nd March 2024
Ian from Ganders
Goat Farm talked about their life since starting off giving each other hens for a wedding present and then buying a rather
run down 10 acre farm near Cottingham. They now run a herd of goats and make ice cream, soap and run walks with goats
(an interesting birthday present?!).
January 2024
Our annual committee meeting to discuss the area and its (luckily) few issues.
Friday 24th November 2023
We had our quick AGM with updates on the Neighbourhood
Plan, traffic, local issues etc and then we had a most interesting talk from ex Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Northamptonshire
- Dr Martin Gaskell. We learned of the history and how the team of up to 48 DLs work in the area.
Sunday 7th May 2023
Another excellent lunch gathering in St Michael's
Church - this time to celebrate the King and Queen's Coronation. Quite a few people wore their best crown
and the bring and share food was delicious.
Thursday 17th
April 2023
Referendum on whether to adopt the Neighbourhood Plan.
Friday 24th March 2023
The
speaker was Pandora Kenyon from ageUK who outlined the incredibly varied services that the organisation undertakes –
from gardening, finding stairlifts, helping get people home from hospital to care and companionship at home.
March 2023
Open meetings about the Neighbourhood Plan - a chance for anyone to drop in, look at the Plans
and proposals and talk to those involved.
Friday
25th November 2022
After our AGM we heard from Cllrs Scott and Eve Edwards
Sunday 5th June 2022
Over 110 people and 18? children
gathered in St Michael's Church garden to have a bring and share lunch and celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
The Corby Silver Band played twice, interspersed with music by Carly Jane, the children did a treasure hunt, more supplies
of white wine had to be hastily bought and a kind chap turned up with his crepe machine and drone to add a bit more excitement
to the day. The winner of the raffle was delighted with her spa day for 2 at Kettering Park Hotel with other prizes
of a boiler service, hair cut, Spatchcock Chicken voucher and various bottles also much appreciated.
Friday 25th March 2022
The mysteries of the projects
HAZ (High Street Action Zone) and GLaM (Gallery, Library and Museum) were explained by Dr David Brown, Chair of the Friends
of Kettering Art Gallery and Museum, to 42 of our members with the usual wine and nibbles afterwards.
January and March 2022
We held a couple of committee meetings to discuss HARA and
especially organise the Jubilee Party as part of the Big Jubilee Lunch on 5th June.
Friday 26th November 2021
We held our AGM at St Michael's and All Angels Church
with brief reports from the Chairman and the Treasurer. The committee were re-elected and thanks were given to Kevin
Connor who has moved south. Ian Addis talked to us after the business part of the evening about his latest book 'the
Lost Sportsgrounds of Kettering' and gave us a fascinating history of the open spaces we used to have and where they all
were.
Sunday 27th June 2021
We were
delighted to have some "normal" and held our Summer Gathering at St Michael's Church for a couple of hours over
lunch. People brought their own sandwiches while HARA provided the drink and it was great to see people in 3D again
although we have been chatting in the street. Under the current Covid restrictions we could have 30 people (and some
children) and the Frankland family provided their useful marquee for a bit of shelter. Geoff Arnold's funeral was
on Friday 25th and there was plenty of food left over so we remembered him while we were tucking into the scotch eggs.
2020 Reports instead of
the AGM
Chairman's report : The year
started with a programme of events in the diary but then, as for everyone else, the Pandemic struck just before our March
meeting and things have been on hold ever since.
However, much has been happening in our neighbourhood.
The pandemic created all sorts of issues for our residents but the community rallied round to ensure that shopping was done,
prescriptions collected, dogs walked, laundry bags sewn for the NHS and lots of chats to make sure everyone had the essentials.
And that is what our community is about - keeping an eye out for each other and just making sure everyone is all
right. Let us keep caring where we can.
As ever a big Thank You to the committee for
keeping the show on the road. We look forward to meeting when we can next year and best wishes in the meantime.
Treasurer's report
: Despite having no meetings this year there are the inevitable expenses of our Newsletters and website
but our finances are stable and in good shape and all is well. We have around £4,500 in the bank of which £1,300
is money we got from the PostCode Lottery Fund towards the light over the bridge at the end of Headlands/Ostlers Way - which
we are still hoping will go ahead. The committee decided to waive the 2021 subscriptions for those who joined in 2020.
We are ready for action when we are released
and hope to be able to meet up in March.
